How do I book a session?

Create a student account, fund your wallet, browse tutors on the Find a Tutor page, and click "Book Now" on any tutor's profile. Select the subject, level, date, and time. The session is confirmed once the tutor accepts.
Is my payment safe?

Yes. Your payment is held in escrow — it is never transferred directly to the tutor at the time of booking. Funds are only released after both you and the tutor confirm the session was completed. If something goes wrong, our dispute team reviews the case.
What happens if a tutor cancels?

If a tutor cancels more than 2 hours before a session, you receive a full refund to your wallet immediately. You can then rebook with any other available tutor.
Can I try a tutor before committing?

Yes — you can book any single 1-hour session with any tutor to test compatibility. There are no minimum session requirements.
How do I join a session?

At session time, log into your dashboard and click "Join Classroom." The live classroom opens directly in your browser — no downloads or plugins required.
How do I dispute a session?

After a session, if you have a problem, go to your Disputes page in the dashboard and open a dispute within 24 hours of the session end. Describe the issue with evidence and our admin team will review within 48 hours.
Can I get a refund?

Refunds are processed automatically for cancelled sessions. For completed sessions where the service was unsatisfactory, open a dispute and our team will determine eligibility based on the evidence.

How do I start earning on Portfolio Place?

Register as a teacher, complete KYC verification (upload your ID), set up your profile with your subjects and bio, and toggle your availability on. Students will start finding and booking you.
What is KYC and why is it required?

KYC (Know Your Customer) is an identity verification process where you upload a valid government ID. It is required so that students can trust who they are booking. It also protects tutors from false accounts.
When do I get paid?

After both you and the student confirm session completion, your earnings (85% of the session fee) are credited to your wallet. If neither party confirms within 24 hours, funds are auto-released to you.
What is the 15% commission for?

It covers platform maintenance, payment processing infrastructure, dispute resolution services, KYC processing, and customer support.
How do I increase my rank?
▼
Complete more sessions, maintain a high average rating (students rate you after each session), keep your attendance and completion rates high, and keep your dispute rate low. Rank upgrades are automatic when you meet the criteria.
Can I set my own rates?

Expert and Elite rank tutors can set custom hourly rates. All other ranks follow the platform pricing formula based on rank multiplier, subject difficulty, and class level.
What if a student doesn't show up?

If a student does not join within 15 minutes of session start time, you can mark the session as a student no-show. This protects your dispute rate and triggers an auto-review.

How do I fund my wallet?

Go to your Wallet page in the dashboard and select the top-up amount. We support bank transfers and card payments. Funds are available instantly after payment confirmation.
How do I withdraw my earnings?

Teachers can withdraw from the Earnings page. Enter your bank name, account number, and account name. A 1% withdrawal fee applies. Transfers are processed within 24 hours.
What is the minimum withdrawal amount?

The minimum withdrawal amount is ₦2,000.
Are transactions secure?
▼
Yes. All transactions are processed through encrypted payment gateways and held in our regulated escrow system.

What browser works best?

Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge are recommended for the best experience. Mozilla Firefox also works well. Safari may have limited WebRTC support on some versions.
What if my internet connection is poor?

The classroom automatically adjusts video quality based on your connection. You can also disable video and use audio-only mode to reduce bandwidth while keeping the whiteboard and chat active.
Is the session recorded?

Sessions are not recorded by default. Chat history is preserved for both parties to review after the session. Whiteboards can be screenshotted within the session.
Can I use the whiteboard on a phone?

Yes — the whiteboard is touch-friendly and works on mobile devices, though a tablet or desktop provides a better experience for drawing.
